Buckden to Huntingdon safe walking & cycling scheme

Great to report that at the second time of asking Huntingdonshire District Council’s Cabinet has now agreed to fund up to £100,000 Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding for a safer walking & cycling scheme from just by Brampton Park Golf Club to just past the car wash at the Swift Garage on Buckden Road.

At the moment pedestrians and cyclists have to cross the road just past the car wash in a 60 mph zone. Many cars and HGV’s accelerate at this point when driving out towards Buckden as they come around the curve in the road.

This will complete a key missing link in the route from Buckden to Brampton and provide a much safer route to school for Buckden school children who cycle to Hinchingbrooke School and for anyone walking or cycling to Buckden from Brampton.

The crossing point will be moved to a much safer location south of Park Lane close to the entrance of the golf club.  A new 3 metre wide shared use path will also be constructed.

The bid for funding was submitted by Buckden Parish Council with support from Brampton Parish Council, Cambridgeshire County Council and Hunts Walking & Cycling Group.

The total scheme cost is expected to be circa £188,000. We have submitted bids for further funding to other funding bodies.

A special thanks to members of Brampton PC who have worked hard with us to bring this scheme forward overcoming many challenges along the way.
