On Thursday evening we got a call from a member of the public in Ely reporting suspected catalytic converter theft.
Thanks to the quick call, our officers were deployed to the area and nearby we arrested three men.
We’re pleased to say that the three men from Sandy and Cambridge have since been charged with:
· Two counts of theft from a motor vehicle
· Aggravated vehicle taking
· Possession of an offensive weapon.
The men appeared at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and will appear at Cambridge Crown Court in April.
Catalytic converter theft remains an important priority for police. We have been holding targeted days and weeks of dedicated patrols, visiting scrap dealers and offering free catalytic converter marking to almost 300 vehicles as part of work to prevent theft.
Members of the public are urged to look out for vehicles jacked up (especially in the middle of the vehicle) and listen out for the sound of metal being cut.
Do not approach anyone involved. Instead call 999 and share as much information as you can.
Kind Regards,
Detective Inspector Dan Cooper
