Some good news… Highways England have now completed the cycleway that links Buckden to the Mere Lane Byway. This means that cyclists now have a a minor road / cycle route to Brampton, Brampton Woods and Grafham. Please see the photos of the work being completed below:
To access the route from Buckden, exit the village by turning right along the pavement at the end of Silver Street. The new cycleway starts when the pavement widens as you head down the hill towards Brampton. To access the Mere Lane Byway cross the Brampton Road at the roundabout at the bottom of the hill and head towards the old railway bridge (middle Picture). Go under the bridge and turn right onto the concrete byway. At the end of the byway, turn left onto the minor road to Brampton Woods and Grafham and right to Brampton – it’s about 1 mile along the byway to Brampton Woods and a circa 2 miles to Brampton.
The road between Grafham and Brampton, that the Mere Lane Byway joins, is not ideal so take care, but it is being used more and more by cyclists so car drivers are becoming increasingly aware of cyclists and are driving slowly. Riding to Brampton Woods is a great leisure route as there is only a short stretch on the main road network. Please note that cycling is not allowed in the woods as it is an area of Special Scientific Interest – please leave your bikes in the car park.
